On Saturday, January 12th, Alpine hosted their 6th annual Mountain Lion VEX IQ Tournament. Thirty teams from 7 SVVSD elementary schools competed together to demonstrate and challenge their skills in problem solving, programming, building, teamwork, driving, design, and critical thinking. Led by Alpine teachers, Julie Daley and Nathan Koenigseker and volunteer parent coaches, six 3rd-5th grade teams were represented by Alpine including the Dancing Doritos, RoboG.O.A.T.s, Team Lightning, Robo Thrashers, Thrasher the Cheetah, and the VEX Dragons. Team Lightning won the Think award and the Dancing Doritos won the Design award. The Dancing Doritos have already qualified for the State Tournament by earning the Robot Skills award during Central’s tournament. The state VEX tournament will be held on March 2nd at Erie Middle School. Thanks to the many families, community members, and teachers from Alpine that volunteered, the tournament was a great success and a fun day for students and parents. Alpine’s final tournament of the season will be February 2nd at Columbine Elementary. Please consider attending to cheer on the amazing students at Alpine and throughout our district!
