Superintendent’s Update
Dear St. Vrain Valley Schools Community,
We have so much to celebrate in the St. Vrain Valley community! Over the past week, I’ve had the joy of visiting schools and seeing all of our students and teachers back in the classroom, engaged in learning. Their energy and enthusiasm remind me why I’m excited to serve as your new superintendent and partner with you as we begin this new school year.
With the highest graduation rate in the Denver Metro Area, rigorous academics, and countless opportunities in the visual and performing arts, athletics, STEM and robotics, we are committed to advancing success for our students. This is our St. Vrain Commitment—that each and every student will be recognized for their unique talents and receive an exceptional PreK-12 experience, graduating with a strong competitive advantage. This represents why I call our comprehensive system that serves every student with empathy, opportunity and excellence the #StVrainAdvantage.
Here are just a few highlights of how our students, teachers, and staff continue to achieve at the highest levels:
Academic Excellence:
- Last year, St. Vrain students earned over 44,000 college credits through Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and concurrent enrollment courses, saving families approximately $23 million in future tuition costs.
- We’re one of only four Colorado districts—and 373 in North America—recognized on the College Board’s Annual AP District Honor Roll, with 8 high schools earning AP Honor Roll status in 2023 and 2024.
- Throughout the summer, thousands of students continued their learning through our Project Launch program, which provides four additional weeks of rigorous instruction in math and language arts, while hundreds more participated in advanced STEM and Career and Technical Education opportunities through our Innovation Center and Career Elevation and Technology Center.
Innovation Leadership:
- Forbes Magazine recognized St. Vrain as a Best-In-State Employer and the highest ranked K-12 employer in Colorado. We also have the highest base pay for teachers in Colorado, at $64,500, ensuring we attract the very best educators to our community.
- St. Vrain offers nationally recognized signature programs that are first of their kind, including Four P-TECH Programs, Pathways to Teaching, Mobile Innovation Lab, Cybersecurity Mobile Lab, Underwater Robotics Programming, Student Drone Performance Team, Advanced Manufacturing Academy, Toyota TECS Program, and Artificial Intelligence Student Team.
- The NAMM Foundation has honored us with the Best Communities for Music Education award for four consecutive years since 2021.
Community Investment:
- Your continued investment in the 2024 bond has enabled construction projects to progress throughout the summer, enhancing learning opportunities for our students. Construction has commenced on the new Mead PK-8, our new high school in Frederick, the Innovation Center expansion, and more. Design work is also underway for additional projects including a new CTE Center and elementary school in Erie. We’re deeply grateful for your ongoing support, which allows us to provide world-class facilities.
- We’ve earned approximately $71 million in highly-competitive grants for programs that advance innovation and student learning.
I want to personally thank you for your partnership and investment in our students, teachers, and staff. Your commitment to high-quality public schools demonstrates the strength of our community and your belief in the potential of every child. This fall, I’ll be hosting annual open forums in each of our geographic areas to connect with our community, listen to your questions and suggestions, share our many student successes, and discuss our vision for maintaining our tradition of promoting positive impact through the St. Vrain Commitment. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your thoughts on how we can continue to provide every student with the #StVrainAdvantage.
Together, we are building a stronger future for our children and our communities.
Sincerely,
Jackie Kapushion, Ed.D.
