Bio

Becky Knapp is a literacy interventionist at Alpine Elementary. She has been teaching for thirteen years and at Alpine for five of these years. She loves this community and feels very fortunate to be working with striving readers here at Alpine. She earned a Bachelors in Psychology from UC Davis:, a Masters in Education from UNC, and she is currently in the process of becoming a Certified Academic Language Therapist. In her role as the literacy interventionist, she works with students from many grade levels. Her students' study the structure of our language up-close, in a small group, receiving multi-sensory instruction through comprehensive intervention programs from Orton Gillingham and Take Flight. These programs integrate the five essential components of evidence based reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

Becky lives in the mountains with her husband, three children and her rescue dog. She loves hiking, reading and seeing live music. Her favorite part of teaching is building relationships with students and their families. She specializes in recognizing dyslexia in students and building the support systems students need to become confident readers who love reading
