Bob “Señor” Roy is Alpine’s IB Coordinator and Spanish teacher. In 1987, after a semester at the Universidad de Costa Rica, he received his B.A. in Spanish and International Affairs from the University of Nebraska. He spent 5 years in Washington, D.C., where he interned at the Washington Office on Latin America and then worked as a bilingual researcher for the Library of Congress’s Columbus Quincentenary Program, which produced an exhibition and several publications around Christopher Columbus and the Americas. While in Washington, Mr. Roy met his wife, Ana, and eventually moved to Ana’s home town, Nicoya, Costa Rica. For five years he taught English to Costa Rican students at the elementary, high school and university levels. Mr. Roy and his family relocated to Longmont in 1999, attracted by Longmont’s growing Hispanic population and the opportunities for people with Spanish language skills. His adult sons, Paul and Christopher are both Alpine alumni. A two-time Alpine PTO co-president, and former School Improvement Team member, Mr. Roy joined the Alpine faculty in 2009 after ten years in Advertising at the Times-Call newspaper. Señor Roy has endorsements in Spanish, Social Studies, and Gifted and Talented. He is a member of the St. Vrain Valley Education Association Board of Directors. A connoisseur of good food and libation, Señor Roy enjoys gardening, cooking dinner with friends, politics, travel, conversation, and understanding.
