Improving children’s literacy skills has such a huge impact on their growth as learners. You can do so much at home to improve your children’s reading and writing skills, setting them up for a life of learning. The National Center on Improving literacy suggests 10 ways that you can support your child’s literacy development at home. Try some of these out.
1. Read nursery rhymes and books aloud together
2. Sing, draw, and tell stories
3. Play audiobooks to increase the amount of language your child hears
4. Label objects in your home to show the importance of language, reading, and writing
5. Play word games
6. Talk about the meanings of words
7. Point out interesting or new words when reading together
8. Offer a literacy-rich environment at home
9. Talk about school magazines, or current events
10. Model good literacy behavior by reading regularly yourself

Alpine Cell-Phone Policy
Students are always welcome to bring personal cell-phones to school. However, during the school day, we require cell-phones and watches with calling and texting capabilities to be turned off and kept in students’ backpacks. This practice helps us to protect students’ privacy and maintain focus in the classroom.
Cell phones rarely cause problems at school, but if they do become a distraction, we reserve the right to keep students’ cell phones on a teachers’ desk or at the office.
If you urgently need to contact your child at school, please call the front office.
Food Drive
The fooddrive is coming! As IB students, we take action, andour students understand that they are not too young to make positive impacts on others in order to make the world a better place. One action we take is the yearly food drive. Dec 2nd through December 19th, we will be collecting food to donate to the OUR center. The OUR Center helps hundreds of people in our community every year with food, clothes, personal development, and so much more. Please donate what you can to help as many people in our community as possible.
Food donations can include, but are not limited to, canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, pasta sauce, mac-n-cheese, peanut butter, tuna fish, canned chicken, soup, stew, canned ravioli, 100% fruit juice, crackers, baby food, baby formula, diapers, hygiene goods, beans, and cereal. For donations, classes will earn points collectively to earn class rewards. The prizes are: 200 points equals a Hat Day, 400 points equals a Game Day, and 600 points equals a movie or Read-in Day. Foods are worth 1 point or 5 points. Pop-top cans are worth 5 points each. The top prize is FEEDING THE MOST PEOPLE!! GO ALPINE!!!

Community Night
Hello everyone!
Thank you for participating in November’s Community Night at Noodles & Co. We raised $271. Great job everyone!.
We are going to try something a little different for our next Community Night. It will be on Wednesday, December 11 from 4-8pm at the Get Air Trampoline Park located at 2251 Ken Pratt Blvd.
Instead of making a donation to Alpine, they will offer anyone who says they are from Alpine a 30% discount on jump time. Note that you must mention you are from Alpine Elementary School to get the 30% discount. Hope to see you all there!
Alpine’s Got Talent
Alpine is hoping to host a student talent show this year and we are looking for some help. We need one or two additional parents who are willing to co-chair our talent show committee and help our Alpine students showcase their talent. If you are interested, please contact [email protected].

All registrants must be attending a childcare program through St. Vrain Valley School District. Enrollment ends on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. If a child is registered for Non School Day and not attending an SVVSD childcare program, NSD care will be cancelled. No refunds for cancelled care or non attendance. CCAP must be authorized for the care site and dates of care otherwise parents will be charged. If your child care invoice is outstanding at your home site, care may be cancelled if a payment plan isn’t in place
St. Vrain Preschool Expands to Five-Day-A-Week Programs
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, St. Vrain Valley Schools will offer five-day-a-week preschool programs. Families can explore a variety of high-quality preschool options tailored to meet families’ unique needs, including half-day morning and afternoon sessions, with full-day programs available at select locations. Registration for the upcoming school year begins on December 17.

St. Vrain Valley Schools has achieved the highest on-time graduation rate in the district’s history, at 93.3%. This is also the highest graduation rate of any district in the Denver Metro area, and the highest of any district in Colorado with more than 300 graduates.
