Sunshine Club Dental Clinic

The Sunshine Club is a local volunteer organization that has been serving the students of SVVSD for many years by providing dental screenings and referrals to area dental providers.  This year, the Sunshine Club will offer screenings and flouride at all of the elementary schools. Your school's health clerk will serve as the liaison and will send home permission forms to return to the school if you give consent for your child to participate.  Please return these forms by January 13, 2020

A part of a child’s overall  health and wellness is dependent on a  healthy mouth and teeth. Cavities and tooth decay are one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood in the United States. Prevention is key: left untreated cavities can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. Children who have untreated oral health conditions are absent more often from school and receive lower grades compared to children who see a dentist regularly.

Fluoride varnish can prevent about one-third (33%) of cavities in the primary (baby) teeth.  Children living in communities with fluoridated tap water have fewer cavities than children whose water is not fluoridated.  Additionally, children who brush daily and use fluoride toothpaste will have fewer cavities. The best place for your child to receive oral health care is through their dental health care provider.
