Alpine Inquirer – 4/21/23

Alpine’s Music Festival will be held on Thursday, May

Last year’s Alpine Music Festival had a HUGE turnout. We look forward to hosting the Second Annual Alpine Music Festival on Thursday, May 4 at 5:30. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and arrive early to get tasty treats from a selection of food trucks.

Dear Parents/Guardians

Hello Alpine Families,

I am excited to tell you that May 1-5  is Teacher Appreciation Week, a time when we can show our gratitude for the amazing work our teachers and staff do every day to help our children learn, grow, and thrive.

Our teachers and staff go above and beyond to create a warm and nurturing learning environment for our students, and this is the perfect opportunity to let them know how much we appreciate all of their hard work.

As we approach this special week, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the impact that your child’s teacher has had on their education and well-being. Whether it’s through their innovative lessons, their patience and understanding, or their dedication to helping each child reach their full potential, our teachers truly are superheroes.

To help show our appreciation, I would like to invite you to consider sending in a small token of appreciation for your child’s teacher or another staff member. They might appreciate something from their list of favorite things.

Please note that these tokens of appreciation are completely optional, and you should feel free to express your appreciation in whatever way feels most comfortable to you.

Thank you for your continued support of our school, teachers, and staff. Let’s make this Teacher Appreciation Week one to remember!

Sincerely,

Amber Marsolek

Principal – Alpine Elementary – IB World School

Tribute to Teachers

Congratulations to Alpine’s three finalists for Teacher of the Year. These three very worthy educators make Alpine a special place to be.

Daisy Wence teaches Second Grade. She’s been a valuable member of the Alpine team for seven years. She’s an expert at engaging even the most reluctant learners.

Becky Ramsey is one of Alpine’s counselor. She provides a great deal of leadership for the school and has an outstanding ability to provide just the right kind of intervention for students. This is her second year at Alpine.

Lori Lopez has been at Alpine for 17 years. She’s wanted to be a teacher since she was in elementary school and shows that passion for teaching to her students every day. Lori makes her classroom a place where students want to be.

Summer Opportunities

Hello SV Families and welcome to the 2023 Student Design Guild! The Design Guild focuses on Design Thinking, a human-centered, problem-seeking, problem-solving approach to finding answers for many of the world’s issues.  Does your child constantly seek out solutions to problems they encounter?  Are they always designing, brainstorming, building and prototyping?  Consider having your child enter the Student Design Guild where they can share and showcase their prototype of a problem they want to solve.

  • To participate in and submit a prototype to the Design Guild, see the flier attached for more information!

PYP Community News

Hello, Alpine families!

5th Grade Exhibition – Thursday, May 18th
All IB programs include a culminating learning experience in their final year, called Exhibition.  (Look for it on your favorite social media, #PYPX.) Our 5th grade students demonstrate their understanding of a local or global issue they have chosen to explore.

The exhibition is a powerful demonstration of student agency, as well as the agency of the community that has nurtured them through their years in the PYP. Through the exhibition, students demonstrate their ability to take responsibility for their learning—and their capacity to take action—as they are actively engaged in planning, presenting and assessing their own learning. They undertake their investigation both individually and with their peers and present their findings to the Alpine learning community, including peers, teachers, parents, and extended family.

Watch this space for further details, including presentation times, next week.

To help you navigate some of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP) vocabulary and concepts that we live, use, and teach here at Alpine Elementary IB World School, watch this space in future newsletters.  Click here for a really helpful flyer: “5 ways you could support your child as a PYP parent.” / “Cinco maneras de ayudar a su hijo en el PEP.” (Put it on the fridge for quick reference!).

– Bob “Señor” Roy, IB Coordinator / Spanish

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP) brings vocabulary and concepts to our learning at Alpine Elementary IB World School.  As we try to understand our world we approach each new thing by asking questions (inquiring) around 7 Key Concepts which are fundamental:

Form (What’s it like?), Function (How does it work?), Causation (Why is it like it is?), Change (How is it changing?), Connection (How is it connected?), Perspective (What are the points of view?),  Responsibility (What is our responsibility?).

Class Placement for 23-24

Dear Alpine Families,

It’s time to start thinking about the 2023-2024 school year! Alpine teachers will be getting together late April by grade level to place students in next year’s classes, which will be balanced by ability, learning style and personalities. Teachers know their students very well and work very hard to make placements that fit them best. If you would like to add something to this process, we welcome you to fill out this questionnaire.

Sincerely,

Amber Marsolek, Principal
Alpine Elementary
IB World School – International Baccalaureate PYP
